💪 Let's Talk About Side Hustles! 9 Gigs to Give You Green

One of my favorite things in the world is....drumroll...SIDE HUSTLES! Yep, that’s right. I’m the kind of person that would rather have 15 little jobs rather than 1 large job 😂

So here are a few side hustles. By the way, these are either side hustles I’ve personally enjoyed or ones that have been recommended to me highly.

1. Drive for Door Dash/Grub Hub.

Depending on how fast you can deliver food orders, this can be a pretty lucrative side hustle! I've only done it a few times, but it's been worth it. One of my dash sessions was about $25/hour, so that was very worthwhile. When I do dash with my son, I let him have a dollar for each delivery. It's fun for him and then we go to the dollar store afterwards and he can buy what he likes (or save it, but he hasn't done that yet).

2. Teach English to kids in China.

With VIP Kid, you can make pretty good money just teaching kids English. And it's nice not leaving the confines of your own home. I haven't worked for VIP Kid, but one of my best friends does and she says it's great!

3. Bake bread and sell it.

Here's a stellar recipe for baking bread:

Hallah Bread

1/2 cup warm water

 1 TB yeast

a bit of sugar

*Let these first ingredients sit for a couple minutes, then add:

2 cups powdered milk + 6 cups warm water

Then add 1 1/2 cups sugar to the mixture

Then add some flour

Add 3 eggs

Add more flour

Add a some yeast

Add more flour

Add 1/2 cup oil

Add more flour

Add 1 TB salt and the remaining flour (about 11 cups total)

  1. After mixing all of the above, let it rise in an oiled bowl
  2. Once doubled, punch it down and let it rise again
  3. Braid it
  4. Bake @ 375 F for 15-20 min
  5. Voila! Delicious bread.

4. Sell stuff on Facebook Marketplace

We have saved sooo much money (and time) this year by selling stuff instead of donating it! Plus, this year has been a tricky year with donating items. The local donation places around us are usually booked for weeks or fill up so quickly it's nearly impossible to drop off your stuff. Anyway, it's really nice to declutter and make a few bucks and not have to haul your stuff out. Definitely give it a shot. (Heck, I even got my parents to jump on board for this! They sold a bunch of their older-but-not-needed furniture this year and it was awesome.)

5. Babysit.

No one pays as well as a parent who needs a break from their kids. Actually, wait. Probably a lot of people pay better. But whatever! It's (generally) a very sweet gig. You get to play games with a couple of kids. Make sure the place looks halfway decent. Be a kind person who is not glued to their phone. And wow! You got $20-30 for keeping everyone alive and happy for a few hours. Now if I can figure out how to get paid for watching my own kids...

6. Rent out your space!

If you have extra space, rent that %#$! Just kidding. But not. It's a SUPER sweet side hustle. However. This comes with a few conditions. By all means:

  • Have a separate entrance for renters
  • On that note, HAVE SEPARATE SPACE (you don't want to be cleaning up after another roommate, amirite??)
  • If you share laundry facilities, have a designated day for the person who doesn't live in that space
  • Have a rental agreement (and get it in writing friends!)
  • Incentivize where it counts (They don't pay for the water bill? Then what's stopping them from taking an hour-long shower? But the trash?...it's a flat fee. You can attract more renters by taking care of that. So pick and choose which utilities to pay for and which to charge.)
  • Don't just do a background check. I mean, yes, do that too. But in addition, do an employer check and a previous landlord check too.
If Airbnb is legal in your area, I highly recommend that! It's a great way to have rental income without the full commitment. We've used Airbnb both as renter and landlord and we've been highly satisfied.

Another great rental space is Neighbor. We have some extra side parking that we rent out and it’s so nice to have extra income without any extra hassle.

7. Turo

Basically Airbnb for cars. We've used Turo on the user end and I can't wait to use it as a renter. Note that only certain makes and models can be used. (Sadly our current car is too old.) You also need a car with a clean (not refurbished) title. You can use their handy Calculator to see if your vehicle would work!

Fiverr is a super cool platform for freelance work. You can both hire people for jobs and list your own services. I have some random skills in web design, editing, and writing. Guess where I listed them in exchange for moolah?? Fiverr. Give it a shot and see what you think! Plus when you use my link, you get 20% off your first purchase.

9. Do what you're good at.

I know this sounds like a bland, generic, Abraham-Lincoln-type quotes, but I mean it. Are you good at singing? Offer lessons. You're a star at hanging framed photos (like my husband is)? Advertise yourself! Use whatever skills you already have up your sleeves.

10. Shop for others using Instacart.
Instacart is like DoorDash/GrubHub but for groceries. Once you do a few batches, you can deliver multiple batches at once which increases your earnings a ton. Sign up to shop using my link: http://inst.cr/t/MERBMmtDcWxY

Now go out there and rock it! Unless you already have a side hustle — in that case, keep rocking it!
